Advocates Strive for Marijuana Reform in 2020

|

Whether medically or recreationally, Idaho is surrounded by states which have legalized the use of marijuana. Surprisingly, weed, and even hemp products, are still very illegal in Idaho.

If you are caught with marijuana or any product containing THC, you could be hit with a $10,000 fine and up to 5 years in prison.

Marijuana laws in Idaho have not been adjusted since we first wrote about them in 2018, despite the best efforts of cannabis advocacy groups.

This could all change, however, in the 2020 election, in which advocates will once again seek to legalize medical marijuana.

Ballot Petition Approved for Circulation

The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) is a non-profit that strives to end marijuana prohibition. Advocates from MPP and the Idaho Cannabis Coalition recently filed a petition to legalize medical marijuana in Idaho. Their proposal was approved in August of 2019.

In order to appear on the ballot, supporters must collect just over 55,000 signatures by April of 2020.

Supporters can sign at locations all over Idaho and protect users of medical cannabis from punitive actions by law enforcement.
